Install Manual

Challenge
Nakamoto Forestry needed to overhaul technical documentation and update their copy and product diagrams for their expanding product line. These documents vary greatly in length, content, and purpose. One to two-page specification sheets and a 30+ page installation manual, in English and Spanish, needed to have a consistent branding, look, and feel.
Solution
I started by refining the documents’ branding to create a minimal aesthetic, inspired by traditional Japanese design. I presented layout options well-suited to dense, complex technical information. While creating new product diagrams, I realized their format needed to be updated which meant also updating all of the previous diagrams. I also implemented workflow improvements within InDesign.
Result
These updates and improvements produced a suite of documents that clearly convey the complex technical information. They are clear and easy to understand for everyone throughout the design and build process. Everyone who interacts with Nakamoto Forestry has a better product experience as a result— from homeowners wanting to update their homes to architects specifying products for a new project and crews at the build site installing the siding. My workflow improvements sped up and simplified the processes for other team members to add new products and update existing information, as needed.
