These wine labels were designed as part of GiftTree’s private label wine program and represent their first foray into high-end wines. We worked with some of the most prestigious wineries in California’s famed Napa and Sonoma regions to acquire and label these highly rated bottles, which range in retail price from $50 to almost $200 per bottle. With the quality and distinguished background of the wine in mind, I wanted to design labels that lived up to the reputation of the contents within.
These are some of the pieces of work I’m most proud of and they were a privilege to design, as well as an awesome learning experience on many levels. Admittedly I am not an wine connoisseur, but digging into the world of high-end wine culture and labeling was a very rewarding journey. There are many aspects that go into a designing a good wine label, from physical limitations such as bottle shape—which are drastically different between a Cabernet and a Chardonnay—to the Pandora’s box of bureaucratic labeling regulations. However, when the right balance is found, beautiful design solutions are possible.
